Microsoft introduceert drie varianten van Windows 8
Microsoft heeft al maanden geleden duidelijk gemaakt dat er verschillende versies van Windows 8 komen bedoeld voor het x86- en het ARM-processorplatform. Nu zijn er ook namen aan gehangen, blijkt uit een blog van het Windows 8 team.

Windows 8 voor x86 heet gewoon Windows 8 en voor de ARM-apparatuur komt er Windows RT (Runtime).
Daarnaast introduceert Microsoft nog een derde variant Windows 8 Pro. Dit besturingssysteem is ook bedoeld voor het x86-platform maar heeft extra mogelijkheden, zoals encryptie, virtualisatie, pc-beheer en domain connectivity. Daarnaast kan Windows Media Center als een voordelige add-on worden toegevoegd aan Windows 8 Pro. Deze versie heeft bovendien een verbeterde Windows Explorer, Task Manager en ondersteunt meer typen monitoren. Ook is het met Windows 8 Pro mogelijk tijdens het gebruik de taalkeuze te veranderen.
