De Amerikaanse National Science Foundation investeert 53 miljoen in de bouw van een koppelnet dat supercomputers op verschillende plaatsen in Amerika laat samenwerken. Deze cluster van supercomputers is de Distributed Terascale Facility gedoopt. De National Science Foundation werkt in het project samen met het National Center for Supercomputing Applications, het San Diego Supercomputing Center, het Argonne National Laboratory en het California Institute of Technology.
