Hours: UK - 37.5 hours per week or NL – 39 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Normal place of work: Hoekenrode 3, Amsterdam (NL)
Contract: Permanent

Position Summary:
We are looking for a full stack developer who wants to join our team in building extraordinary software that changes how the Research & Education (R&E) networking community collaborates, innovates and shares knowledge.

Main responsibilities:
The majority of the work involves:

  • Interacting with internal and external stakeholders to understand business requirements
  • Architecting, designing, developing, testing and implementing bespoke Information Systems in Java and related technologies
  • Agile / Scrum development
  • Testing, reviewing, enhancing and maintaining existing applications
  • Providing level 3 support for developed systems
  • Configuring and managing applications on project workstations/servers
  • Ensuring all work is carried out to the highest quality standards with appropriate detailed documentation
  • Working in a collaborative environment interacting with other teams

In addition to the above you will carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.

Qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge required


  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in computer science or information systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of the full stack software development lifecycle
  • Architecting, designing, developing, testing and implementing bespoke Information Systems in Java and related technologies
  • Experience of Java based Web Services, J2EE Framework, JSP, SPRING 3, Hibernate, Relational Databases
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript and front-end web development experience using JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks, in particular Node.JS, Angular.JS, NV-D3.JS, Angular Material and related toolkits & libraries
  • Extensive HTML5 / CSS3 development experience
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn Trust & Identity technologies (such as SAML, OpenID Connect, OAuth, Shibboleth, SimpleSamlPHP)
  • Strong knowledge and experience of RESTful APIs and JSON
  • Good database experience, preferably Postgres and MySQL DB
  • Working knowledge of Linux Operating Systems, preferably Red Hat 7.0/Centos 7.0
  • Working knowledge of Source Code versioning control, specifically GitLab
  • Good understanding of Agile methodology (Scrum) and Test Driven Development
  • Experience in deploying applications in a virtualised environment


  • Master’s degree in related discipline
  • Good understanding and experience of computer networks, preferably including optical networks
  • Working knowledge of Python/PHP/HTML5/Javascript
  • Good understanding of Puppet/Ansible
  • Basic understanding of security, AA infrastructures & SNMP
